Bike Commute Workshops

The BTA's Bike Commute Workshops are a great first step towards bike commuting. They are also a place for seasoned bicyclists to learn more, share what they know about commuting with new riders, and find out who in their workplace is interested in biking to work.

Topics covered include:

  • Safe and legal riding
  • What you need to know about lights and rain gear
  • Carrying stuff - including clothes, groceries and kids
  • What to do about your hair
  • Route planning and maps

The informative presentations are followed by time for questions and discussion. Presenters also spend time offering route-planning assistance on a one-on-one basis after the presentation. Workshops are led by BTA staff or experienced volunteers, or, in the case of workplaces far from Portland, by motivated employees.

Before and during the Bike Commute Challenge in September, these workshops are offered for free to Metro-area workplaces, thanks to a grant from Metro and support from OHSU. Outside of August and September, we offer on-site workshops for a fee.

To schedule a workshop at your workplace, contact Stephanie (503) 226-0676 x23.

BTA scheduled workshops

Check back soon for upcoming BTA workshops. Workshops listed here are open to the public but you MUST RSVP if noted.

If you are outside of the Portland metro area, we can also help you lead your own workshop or seek a local expert to help. Contact Stephanie (503) 226-0676 x23 for guidance and materials.

Metro Summer Workshops

These free clinics are a great way to learn more about bikes, how to maintain them, and how to ride them most efficiently. The format is casual classroom style with hands-on demos and plenty of opportunity for the audience to ask questions or share tips with fellow cyclists. Clinics are presented by Brett Flemming, Service & Training Manager for the Bike Gallery.

No RSVP necessary. For more information, contact Julie Cash at Metro or call 503-797-1644.
