Communications and Office Support Volunteer (job description) See the BTA from the inside out, as you help keep our busy office functioning smoothly. Office Support volunteers normally set up a regular weekly shift of four hours from January - June or July -December. Hotlist Volunteer We call or e-mail you when there are “hot” advocacy opportunities that need volunteers to write letters, make phone calls, submit letters to the editor or testify on behalf of cyclists’ rights. Once underway the BTA will train qualified volunteers to serve as our representatives to various boards, committees and task forces. Deputies may also serve as representatives on specific issues in Portland and throughout Oregon and SW Washington. Safer Routes to Schools Portland's Safer Routes to School (SR2S) program teaches biking and If your business, organization or institution would be interested in Summer Volunteer OpportunitiesSummer means a full slate of great rides and events for people who love biking! From the end of June to mid-August, the BTA offers volunteer opportunities at 6 major events in Portland. These events are the public face of the behind-the-scenes advocacy work we do, and a great opportunity to encourage people who might not be able to bike to work to get around by bike for fun. We'd love to have your help! Read about the events below to find out how to sign up for a shift. The Night Ride – July 2008 date TBD This ride, formerly known as the Midsummer Night Ride, is a Portland classic: costumed participants will ride en masse through North and Northeast neighborhoods, entertained by fire jugglers, the Last Regiment drum corps, and the cheers of curious crowds come out to watch. The ride begins and ends at Union Station, where revelers will gorge on donuts before heading out to their next nighttime engagement. Registration normally costs $20, but volunteers get to ride and eat for free! Check out shifts and sign up onlline. Questions? Contact Scott Lieuallen at (503) 226-0676 x22. Providence Bridge Pedal – August 2009 date TBD This is the biggest bike event in Portland (last year 17,000 people participated). The Bridge Pedal lets riders live out a car-free fantasy: biking across the bridges of Portland - from the Marquam to the Fremont - without a single car in the way! This is also the biggest BTA benefit of the summer. Volunteer before the ride or work as a course marshall – and get free admission to this year or next year’s event! To sign up for a shift, contact Scott Lieuallen at (503) 226-0676 x22. Tour de Fat - August 18 Live out your bartending fantasy – pour beer (or be the bouncer, checking IDs at the entrance) at this one-day summer festival on the Waterfront. Live bands (including the March Fourth Marching Band), a bike circus, and good beer from New Belgium Brewing, makers of Fat Tire Ale, make this a great party. Volunteers get a free pint and a t-shirt and a legitimate excuse to stay all day. Not that they have to. To volunteer, contact Scott Lieuallen at (503) 226-0676 x22. Bike Parking Our bike parking program is on hold this year - check back next year. Thanks to all the volunteers who've made it work all these years! For more information about bike parking, contact Carl Larson at (503) 226-676 x16. |
