Celebrate new SE Spokane Bike Boulevard grand opening on December 19

The BTA has asked Portland to identify more funding for biking and walking to build out the vision in the the Bike Master Plan. We've asked residents to attend Portland Plan workshops and demand more funding for active transportation.
But what does "more funding" really mean?
It means pedestrian crossings, stormwater management, traffic calming, reconfigured stop signs, and bicycle parking. It means a new bike boulevard, safer streets and a happy neighborhood.
It looks like the SE Spokane Bike Boulevard.
Come see for yourself: construction on the new bike boulevard is nearly complete, and Sellwood neighbors have invited everyone to a grand opening celebration and kid-friendly bike parade.

SE 15th and Spokane
Sellwood is a family friendly neighborhood located just off the Springwater Trail, so neighbors have been eager to improve the SE Spokane connection. The project was initiated over two years ago as part of the Safe, Sound & Green Streets program, but a lack of funding delayed construction until this fall.
Thanks to hard work on the part of city staff and the Sellwood-Moreland Improvement League (SMILE), Spokane was the first of the 15 miles of new bike boulevards to be approved by Portland City Council in July. The unanimous decision gave PBOT staff the green light to proceed with outreach and implementation for the remaining 15 miles.
That's why we think a recent KPTV news article with the title "SE Portland braces for new bike boulevard" would more accurately read, "SE Portland embraces new bike boulevard."
