The BTA is saddened to learn of the death of a man riding a bicycle near the University of Portland early Wednesday morning. We extend our deep condolences to the family and friends of the person killed, whose identity has not yet been determined or released by the Portland Police Bureau.
Police say the crash happened at about 2:30 am on Wednesday near North Willamette and Haven, and the man was taken to the hospital where he later died of his injuries. Two vehicles appear to have been involved in the crash and both drivers remained on the scene.
KATU reports the man may have been pushed into traffic when he was struck. We will update this story with more details when they are available.
Update, 4:45 pm: Police have identified the bicyclist as Kipp Crawford, 31, of Portland. They also say both drivers were under the influence of alcohol, and there is speculation that Crawford may have been pushed into the roadway. See BikePortland.org for further details.
