Celebrate Bike Month by Biking to Work

As the air continues to get warmer, and the sun continues to make surprise appearances among the raindrops, it's a great time to dust off that old bike and try out bike commuting. The League of American Bicyclists designates May as National Bike Month, and locally we're celebrating with a focus on the trip to and from work or school.
The BTA is offering several free public Bike Commuting 101 workshops throughout the month. Check the calendar to find one near you, or contact Stephanie at stephanie[at]bta4bikes[dot]org to schedule one at your workplace later this summer.
If your commute brings you downtown, you're really in luck. You can attend a downtown workshop, eat a biker's breakfast at Pioneer Square, and join Pedal Bike Tours for a free Saturday "Safe Routes to Work" ride to help you find your route.
If your commute includes dropping the kids off at school, you should know that May is also Walk + Bike to School Challenge Month.
And if bike commuting is old hat for you now, May is a great time to offer to share your experience with a new rider in your workplace or neighborhood and to give all those new riders out there a friendly smile and some extra room in the bike lane.
Happy Riding!
