Last night, before a crowd of 750 BTA supporters at the 14th Annual Alice Awards & Auction, five Oregon bike advocates and educators were recognized for their hard work, vision and leadership.

They are:

They were selected from a list of 34 amazing nominees by the Alice Awards Committee. The nominees, Alice Award winners from prior years, and this year's Awardees were all recognized and celebrated at the BTA's annual fundraiser last night. Thank you to everyone who came and helped support great bicycling in Oregon!
Thanks to all of the staff and volunteeres that put together a great event. This is the first year I've enjoyed the program and I had a blast! Can't wait for next year.
Congrats to all of the winners. I'm inspired by all of the amazing work that they, and the other nominees, are doing. Thanks to ALL of them for the changes they've helped bring about.
Salem?!?
I agree Dan…Salem? You've got to be kidding? I live in Salem, bike commute, and my wife and I like to ride around town. Bike lanes just end, the drivers are not bike friendly, and the town in general is not set up for biking. The only good thing going right now is the railroad bridge linking the Riverfront Park and West Salem. Other than that, give me Portland, Eugene or Corvallis. They're way ahead of where Salem will ever be!

And while it's true that Portland (Platinum), Eugene (Silver), and Corvallis (Gold), all at present rate higher than Salem's Bronze, the strides that Salem has made in a very short time period are really remarkable. The MWVBTA meets the third Tuesday of the month. The Downtown Vision 2020 bike/ped group the first Wednesday of the month. Please join us and help us make Salem even better! Kudos to Roosevelt Middle School's SRTS Team and to Shane Rhodes, the SRTS Instigator! The middle school's Safe Routes to School Team did their homework when they received the SRTS funding for education and encouragement. They recognized the potential Shane brought to the newly-funded SRTS program and charged him with their vision for safer routes at Roosevelt. Shane is riding full-speed ahead to the extreme benefit of the school, the school district, and the city.
