Bike Commute Challenge Awards Party: October 8th
Posted by: LillianSep 29 2008, 4:29 pm
Wiped out from all that bike commuting this month? Join us to celebrate and learn the results with your coworkers and rivals at the Bike Commute Challenge awards party next Wednesday, October 8th.
We've got delicious pizza from Hot Lips and tasty beers from Widmer (for those over 21) for you to enjoy while we give out raffle prizes and most importantly: announce the winners for the Bike Commute Challenge.
Festivities start at 6:00 5:30 PM at the Organics To You warehouse at 606 SE Madison St. (in Portland) (Click here for the bycycle.org map)
We'll announce the winners and award trophies (see the Office of Sustainable Development claim theirs for 2007 above) for each category a little later on, so come by and socialize and have a beer first. There's plenty of on-street bike parking so ride down from work with your team!

There will be no falling off the stage this year, sorry. In case that was a major attractor.

I'd love to make it but I'll be working out of town the week of Oct 8th. Had a flat rear tire this AM. Drove in on the first day of Oct. Hope for a dry month!!!

Our apologies to those who won't be able to join us as they will be celebrating Yom Kippur. When we first looked at the calendar when scheduling the party, we saw Yom Kippur on the 9th and moved the party back to the 8th not realizing that the holiday started that evening.
The festivities should be wrapped up before there are 3 stars visible in the sky, but we understand that many will be attending services and/or would not find the party the appropriate prelude to the solemn holiday.
We are sorry for our mistake.

What is the cutoff date for logging September trips? I have gotten confusing emails from the BTA and it doesn't actually say on the website. I've heard both September 30th was the last date AND that people can log trips until tomorrow, Friday, October 3rd.

Bikers in other parts of Oregon who support the BCC like free pizza and beer, too, not to mention raffle prizes. Too bad we can't get the goodies and celebrate, too. I guess Portland = Oregon to the BTA.
And yes, I could drive to Portland, but in doing so, would put more miles on my car than I saved in a month of bike commuting (twice as many). Sort of goes against the point of it all.
My point in whining about this is that BTA has known about this issue for years, and made some indication in the past that they might try to address it. So far, nothing. Would it be so hard to throw some parties in other towns with a significant number of participants, such as Eugene, Corvallis, Salem, or Bend?

Dave, since the BTA office is in Portland, it makes sense that they are best equipped to organize (and control) a party in Portland. I suspect they'd be happy to work with you if you wanted to organize the bash in your city. It's probably about time for you to start lining up donations of space and beer and food for next year.
Me, I'm not sure I'm going to show up this year because it was just too popular and crowded. I would like to buy more of those retro reflective gear/skull stickers, though…
