The neighborhood group SWTrails has been toiling at the dirt-and-rocks level to build paths and staircases for Southwest Portland residents to walk on; and at the planning level to determine a low- and no-traffic bike network to serve southwest residents, workers and students.

After more than a year of open houses, brainstorming sessions, and exploratory bike rides the local planning for this network is nearly complete.

On Wednesday, June 18th, from 5:30-8:00 pm at the Multnomah Arts Center, the recommendation will get one last vetting with Southwest Portland neighbors before SWTrails turns it into a formal recommendation to City of Portland planning staff.

They are on track to recommend "Immediate Actions" that would establish a good, basic system to serve neighborhood centers, as a subset of a more complete recommended system that would rely heavily on low-traffic bike boulevards. Off-street bike paths, uphill shoulders and bike lanes would supplement the low-traffic network.
