New Years Day Ride - new route, new party locale
Posted by: MichelleDec 19 2007, 12:47 pm
This New Years Day, roll out of bed late and join us at noon for the 50-year-old New Years Day Ride! We’ll start at the Battleship Oregon Memorial in Waterfront Park and will cruise on an easy, family friendly route around the river and through SE Portland, before returning to McCall’s Restaurant (currently closed to the public) for hot cocoa, snacks and cookies by the fireplace. Then there will be a slow-bike race, a track-stand competition, and other games.
The ride is a benefit for the Brett Jarolimek Memorial Fund, which will support bicycle safety projects over the coming years.
PLEASE RSVP either by emailing Michelle or by making an optional donation to the Fund online
Start: 12:00 pm, Battleship Oregon Memorial, SW Oak and Waterfront Park, Portland
End: 1:00 pm, McCall’s Restaurant, SW Main and Waterfront Park, Portland
Cost: Optional donation
Kids? Yes! Bring ‘em!
POTLUCK: This is also a potluck. If you have a tasty snack you'd like to share, please email Michelle and let her know! Cupcakes and ants-on-a-log are already spoken for…

Folks have asked why we're being so strict and asking people to RSVP. But it's just so we know how many cookies to bring! Feel free to show up without having RSVP'd, and donations to the Brett Jarolimek Memorial Fund are totally optional. See you there!

Suggestion for next year: Post the ride map online well before the ride. We got lost from our map holder, were misdirected by a guy in the porta-john line at Salmon, and blundered into the Portland Velo ride . Being able to look at the route before New Year's Eve would have prevented a great deal of confusion. Thanks.
