Speak up on behalf of the safety of cyclists!
Please attend tonight's Safe Sound and Green Town Hall and speak up for the importance of bicycling safety. The package includes over $54 million for safety improvements throughout the City including over 100 miles of Bike Boulevards.
Tonight 7-9pm
Rosa Parks Elementary
8960 N. Woolsey

I am unable to attend the meting tonight, but wanted to make two comments.
North Interstate is part of my route when I bike commute to work. The traffic light at the bottom of a moderate hill should suggest caution, but maybe some color-coded warnings/reminders painted in the bike lane would help remind riders to of a potentially dangerous area. Trucks changing lanes a bit further south is also a dicey stretch.
Claims that Oregon should adopt the California law allowing vehicles to move into the bike lane when making a right turn would not likely have helped in this case. The right trun off Interstate is very sharp and a large vehilce like the garbage truck needs to stay to the left or their rear wheels will jump the curb.
Caution and patience on the part of all who are on the roads is necessary.
Oct 23 2007 at 7:19 pmI agree with your assessment. Since it is such as sharp turn the truck would have had to go wide, not turn for the bike lane.
