West TV Elementary in Beaverton had an exceptional time for Walk and Bike to School day. Though the neighborhood isn't ideal for walking- no paths for .4 miles out to 1mile and regular speeding, according to a Walk + Bike Coordinator Parent, 33% of the students walked or bicycled to school today, either with a parent or with a walking school bus. Daily, only 15 to 25 students walk or bicycle, but on this special occasion of International Walk and Bike to School Day, so many students participated (121 students + 65 parents/siblings) that all the prizes were given away. They also raffled off helmets, tshirts, and water bottles.
"We are now ready to work together to try and make changes happen and walking buses might help us keep the momentum in the interim", said a parent coordinator. She also said she was "thrilled and overwhelmed from the response from students and families."
Great job West TV!
