Come to the BTA's Open House!

We are now located at 233 NW Fifth Avenue (between Davis and Everett) in Portland. We'll celebrate our new and bigger digs with an Open House on August 12th. Yup, that's right: August 12th, the same day as the Providence Bridge Pedal. So after you've experienced the thrill of car-free bridges, please swing by our new office. We'll have goodies on hand to refresh you after your ride.
BTA staff (and there's a lot of new folks poking around the office!) will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to answer your questions. This includes our fearless new leader, Interim Executive Director Scott Bricker. It may or may not include our beloved Events & Outreach Director, Michelle Poyourow, who will by that time have been up around the clock for 7 days straight to make sure you experience the best Bridge Pedal ever.
So please join us! Come talk to us about your favorite rides, favorite bikes, or favorite gear. Bring your questions and comments about construction along the transit mall, the I-205 bike route, transit and trail alternatives along Highway 43 in Lake Oswego, the Portland Bicycle Master Plan Update, the gap between the East Bank Esplanade and the Springwater Trail, the Columbia River Crossing, Sullivan's Gulch Corridor, NP Greenway, and bike boulevards. Let us know what's on your mind and what's important to you!
If you can't make it on the 12th, please drop by the next time you're in the neighborhood.

I live in the Oak Grove area of Milwaukie. My question is : Is there any plan to extend the whole Portland bike 'thing' beyond the city limits? We outliers would love to be included in planning, bikepaths, etc. I would like to see a tri-county concept pushed instead of just Portland. After all, the populated area really is bigger than just the city limits.
One great way to get involved in regional bike planning (and we are involved at this level, but you can be too) is planning for how Metro will spend it's money on trails and natural areas.

Many of their projects will add multiuse trails to the regional network.
There are other region-wide initiatives, such as our current Bike Safety Campaign in Washington County and others. But part of the reason that there is so much happening in Portland is that the city has made it a stated priority to encourage biking and they are putting quite a bit of energy and money into it. So another way you can help spread it around is by leaning on your elected officials in Milwaukie and Clackamas.
Of course, there are also good new things happening in both Milwaukie and Clackamas. See Lynne Peterson's opinion piece in yesterday's Oregonian, and check out the new Milwaukie bike map (http://www.portlandonline.com/transportation/index.cfm?c=34809&a=71794) published by the City of Portland.
Also take a look at the shift list (http://lists.riseup.net/www/info/shift) for recent bike advocacy work in and around Milwaukie.
Hey, wasn't this article about a party? Why are we talking about work?
Paul (and other interested parties), check out the Milwaukiebikes Yahoo Group (http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/milwaukiebikes/). Also, Jim Chilson is trying to start a blog dealing with the Oak Grove area (http://www.oakgrovecrossing.com/).
Milwaukie recently completed a public process for updating their transportation system plan, and is incorporating a number of bike changes. Clackamas County is in the process of creating a new bike map. Changes to the south are a-happening. The ClackCo bike ped group meets the 2nd Tuesday on an irregular monthly basis – the next meeting is in October (the 9th).
Right now, the Milwaukiebikes Yahoo Group is probably the best source for info on the area (other than the BTA, of course) – at least 3 of the members are currently pretty active in area cycling, and we're trying to get a Bicycle Advisory Committee going in Milwaukie. News on that front is likely to be a bit sparse over the next month while most of us who are involved are dealing with other projects (or big rides).
Rubber side down,

Congratulations on your new digs!
So sorry I'll have to miss your Open House; I'll be out of town. But I'll stop by in the next week or so.
Best,
Meeky
