Senator Prozanski is at it again. Right now he is pushing SB 789, a new Share the Road license plate
through the Oregon legislature. The bill is in the memory of Jane Higdon, well-know tri-athlete who was killed in bicycle crash last year. The bill is co-sponsored by Senator Atkinson and Representatives Dingfelder, Macpherson, and Read.
To support this bill, please contact your House of Representative.
This bill would create a new plate. The plate would not be a full-fledged specialty plate, but it would have its own unique design. The bill states that the plate would cost “$5 per year of registrationâ€, or $10 per two-years.
Proceeds of the plate would go to two distinct funds, one in the Name of the BTA and one Cycle Oregon. Each group would determine the highest use of these funds. At $5 per plate though, even 10,000 plates would amount to only $50,000.
Senator Prozanski
has stated that his primary goal for these plates is to create increased awareness and a moving billboard that promotes safety and accountability for motorists and bicyclists.
