SUPPORT SB 573 - Pedestrian Hand Signal

The BTA is partnering with the Willamette Pedestrian Coalition to protect and improve the conditions for walkers in Oregon…. after all, every bicyclists is a walker.
SB 573 creates a new pedestrian hand signal. Currently walkers must enter the crosswalk to gain the right-of-way, potentially putting ourselves in danger when trying to cross this street. This bill would create an optional hand-signal that when employed from the curb would require motorists to stop and stay stopped for us to cross the road.
SB 573 passed the Senate Judiciary Committee and is schedule to be voted on the Senate Floor on Monday.
