MTIP Update and Public Hearing on Tuesday
Posted by: ScottFeb 09 2007, 5:21 pm
Metro is in the process of finalizing its list of transportation projects for the 2010-11 funding program. On Tuesday, they will have a public hearing to hear final testimony on the final list recommended from Metro’s Transportation Policy Alternative Committee (TPAC), which I sit on.
Bicyclists have already spoken loudly This is you chance to make your voice heard to increase bicycle projects.
We think this list is pretty good. The recommend list includes three bicycle construction and two planning projects, a large Regional Travel Options program, important pedestrian, boulevard, main street, and Tri Met projects. However, the Willamette Greenway Trail and 70’s Bicycle Boulevard were not recommended.
Recommended Projects
- NE/SE 50’s Bike Boulevard
- Trolley Trail: Arista St. to Glen Echo
- Rock Creek Path: Orchard Park to NW Wilkins
- Westside Corridor Trail study
- Sullivan’s Gulch Trail study
Not Recommended
- Willamette Greenway Trail
- 70’s Bicycle Boulevard

WHAT TO DO
Submit written and if desired spoken testimony that:
1. supports the current bike projects
2. Adds back $600,000 for a new extension of the Willamette Greenway Trail – Greenway SW Lane to SW Lowel, BK 1048. There is a strong coalition behind this project with only a small funding need.
You may submit your written and spoken testimony in person

600 NE Grand Ave
Also, submit testimony by midnight on February 13th:

I join Scott in requesting your specific comment in support of the Willamette Greenway Trail BK 1048. The scope has been reduced to a segment that is about three blocks long. However, it is very important to connect the existing Willamette Greenway trail that ends at the Old Spaghetti Factory to the new trail that will be built in the Central District of SoWa, between SW Lane and SW Gibbs. This will be our first dual trail, in which 12' trail for bikes and wheels is separated from 10' trail for pedestrians. If MTIP funds are secured, there will be an off-street route from Sellwood Bridge to new streetcar and aerial tram. It's not perfect but it would be continuous.
