Jessica says goodbye; help us find a new one!

I remember a few years back, when I was a BTA volunteer, stuffing envelopes, answering phones, and doing my part to help keep the office running smoothly. When I was hired to be the part-time office manager, I felt like the luckiest person in Portland.
Since then, I've had the pleasure of running the BTA's membership program, and then becoming the BTA's first Metro-Area Advocate. It's incredibly satisfying to make a living by making the world a better place for bikes. The BTA is an extraordinary organization, and I've been so proud to be part of our strength and success.
Most of all, I've loved getting to know our wonderful, generous members and volunteers. You've made my job such a pleasure. Any time I need something done — letters written to Congress, testimony at Metro, volunteers to sit on a committee, help with research, even data entry — I've known that I can just ask, and I'll have a friendly, capable, great volunteer in to help me with the task.
Now, after more than five years of being your bicycle advocate, it's time for me to move on. I've taken a job as a bicycle and pedestrian planner for Alta Planning + Design, a longtime BTA partner and supporter. I think it says something about the BTA's stature that working for the BTA alone allowed me to win a job at one of the nation's top bicycle and pedestrian planning firms.
So, I'm sad to say goodbye. Thanks for your friendship and support, and I look forward to joining our team of volunteers in the future.
And, of course, that means that we need a new Metro-Area Advocate. Do you know a great candidate? Send them our way! More job details and application materials available here.

Portland will miss an amazing advocate…but the rest of the nation is gaining big time. By the way, is your new office in the Netherlands near these cows?
We are super glad for Jessica. I think this will allow you to have a great career path in sustainable transit. Keep our cities livable wo-man!
Good luck on your future adventures…but WEAR A HELMET!!! Who wants a picture in the BTA Blog of a person who works at BTA without a helmet followed by a blog about bike safety?
Matt, that picture was taken in the Netherlands, where they do a lot of things differently than we do here.
