Love that Hot Plastic Bike Lane

On my way into work yesterday, I ran across the bike lane machine. While we've had bike lanes planned for Portland's North Vancouver Ave. for months, and there have been spray-painted lines, this is the real deal: hot thermoplastic directly applied.
The main machine is this great truck that has a driver in front and a lane-striper person in back, as far as I can tell. The lane striper watches and starts and stops the hot plastic. It seems as if it solidifies pretty immediately, although I didn't stick my tongue on it to tell. A bunch of steam and presto! Another bike lane, this one brought about by the BTA and PDOT coordinating.
The machine must have run out of plastic, as the lane wasn't completely finished when I went by this morning.
