Share the Road Rally a big success

A crowd of about 100 walkers, bikers, transit riders, drivers, kids, and others came together this morning in Waterfront Park to emphasize that Portland shares the road. Starting in the next few weeks, all City of Portland vehicles will display this new "I Share the Road" sticker (you'll be able to order a bike-sized one for yourself too; we'll let you know as soon as they're available).
Commissioner Sam spoke eloquently about his dismay at the public reaction to recent media events that has seemed to depict drivers and cyclists as enemies. He called for civility and respect from and for all road users; as he said, that's how we do things in Portland.
Timo of the Trash Mountain Boys led us in an original song he wrote for the occasion, entitled Sharin' the Road, and speeches from the BTA's fearless leader Evan, Portland Police Bureau, TriMet, ODOT, PDOT, the CCC, Elders in Action, handicapped advocates, the Willamette Pedestrian Coalition, and more clearly showed that the silent majority believes we can and should share the road.

See more photos from the 'I Share the Road' rally here . Shift was holding their monthly Breakfast on the Bridges event as well, and they included a special activity: they gave treats to TriMet drivers and thanked them for sharing the road (more great photos here).
Many thanks to Jonathan of Bike Portland for the lovely photos!
