Position Description
The Bicycle Transportation Alliance (BTA) is seeking a dynamic leader to take over the position of Executive Director. Based in Portland, OR, the Executive Director is responsible for all aspects of the organization’s management and growth. The BTA is Oregon’s leading statewide organization dedicated to promoting bicycle use and improving bicycling conditions.
Over the past ten years, we have launched a series of programs that have helped make Oregon a leader in bicycling policy, legislation, and advocacy in the nation.
The Executive Director responsibilities include:
Political and Advocacy Leadership
- Engage the board and staff in setting a bold vision and strategies to achieve BTA goals
- Communicate and promote the BTA’s vision and goals with other bicycling and community leadership
- Provide leadership on statewide, regional, and, where appropriate, local coalition and partnerships
- Direct management of existing programs and develop future program initiatives
- Monitor press and agendas for relevant topics
- Direct legislative and policy objectives
- Guide membership and communications programs including newsletters, web presence, email communications.
- Serve as the primary spokesperson and public “face” of the BTA
Executive Management
- Manage finances and annual audit
- Supervise, hire, fire and train staff
- Prepare for and attend bi-monthly Board meetings and, where appropriate, committee meetings
- Keeps and maintains bylaws, registrations, contracts, and all legal documents related to the BTA
Fundraising
- Lead fundraising programs and set direction for staff
- Actively solicit and thank major donors and corporate sponsors
- Prepare and manage annual budget
Qualifications:
- Five years non-profit experience at the staff or board level
- Background in bicycle advocacy and/or planning, community organizing and development, or transportation.
- Enthusiasm for BTA’s mission and bicycling
- Excellent written, oral and facilitation skills
- Excellent relationship building and management skills with a wide variety of constituents
- Ability to implement programs and projects
- Ability to manage many projects at once.
- Self-starter and self-motivator
Salary: $65,000 - $75,000 per year, determined based on qualifications of candidate.
