Bike Safety Education Local ContactsThe BTA’s Bicycle Safety Education Program is a comprehensive curriculum that teaches traffic savvy to kids through classroom activities and on-the-bike practice. Students learn to be predictable cyclists who follow traffic rules and regulations. Since 1998, the BTA has taught the Bicycle Safety Education Program to over 25,000 Oregon students. The Bicycle Safety Education Program is currently running in the following Oregon communities: Albany, Ashland, Beaverton, Corvallis, Eugene, Portland, Salem, Springfield, Talent and Tigard. Bike Safety Education Local Coordinators CORVALLIS JACKSON COUNTY PORTLAND METRO AREA SALEM VANCOUVER, WA Volunteer for the Bicycle Safety Education Program Volunteer participation is key to the success of the bicycle safety education program. Help us reach out to children in your community by sharing your bicycle knowledge and enthusiasm! We offer trainings and volunteer orientation materials to get you up to speed. Join us as a: • Bicycle mechanic – help repair, tune-ups and adjust our fleet. • Ride leader - work closely with BTA staff to guide small groups of students on community rides on the streets around their schools. Volunteer shifts are two or three hours, either in the morning or the afternoon during the school day. We need 3 or 4 volunteers per shift - so bring a friend! We’ll provide training and volunteer orientation materials (.doc file). Together we can teach children to ride safely and independently! To volunteer in the Portland area contact Tricia Satterlee at (503) 226-0676 x25. To volunteer with our bike safety programs in other areas contact the local coordinator listed above. For more information about the bicycle safety education program generally, contact Safe Routes to School Director Angela Koch at (503) 226-0676 x19.
